Titting Castle

In the area of the Titting moated castle (today the ponds are drained), the nobles of Titting, who are still attested in 1237, presumably had their seat. The irregular octagon is grouped around an inner courtyard and consists of two-story buildings and two equally high three-quarter round towers with helmet roofs. In 1525, the castle was plundered during the Peasants' War. After the nobles of Titting, Heinrich Hofstetter resided here in 1358, followed by the Erlingshofeners, then the Lidwachers, who sold the castle and village to Duke Ottheinrich of Neuburg an der Donau in 1535, whereupon the Reformation was introduced in Titting. The core of the current castle complex dates back to the period of Neuburg ownership.

In 1544, the town and the castle came into Eichstätt-princely episcopal possession and thus became Catholic again. The castle became the seat of the princely episcopal Pflegamt Titting, and after the end of the Thirty Years' War, of the Pflegamt Raitenbuch-Titting. Since the Pfleger rarely inhabited the castle in the 18th century, the Prince-Bishop had it converted into a princely brewery in 1786. After secularization, the castle came into the possession of the Gutmann family in 1855 during the Bavarian era and has since been the center of a medium-sized brewery, which specializes primarily in brewing wheat beer. The regionally renowned Tittinger Kellerfest also takes place there every August.
