Tempelhof Castle

The Tempelhof also belonged to the dominion of Kressberg and was originally a manor house. Shortly before the 30 Years' War, the Lords of Knöringen built a pleasure palace there, which became their sole residence after the fire of their ancestral castle in 1648. After the death of the last von Knöringen, Philipp Anton, the castle and the dominion passed to the Crown of Württemberg in 1839.

Already in 1843, the Tempelhof became an evangelical children's rescue and educational institution, and two years later a teacher training college was added. In 1922, the scope of tasks expanded to include difficult-to-educate welfare recipients, and after the war, a retirement home was added. From 1983 to 2006, it housed a facility of the "Beschützende Werkstätte Heilbronn" (Protected Workshop Heilbronn) with a residential home for people with disabilities. After the "Beschützende Werkstätte" moved to Crailsheim, Tempelhof stood empty for almost 4 years until the group "In Gemeinschaft Leben" (Living in Community) became aware of this estate, and now fills the castle and the locality with life again. The goal is an eco-social multi-generational project.
