Stutensee Castle
Stutensee Castle is located approximately in the geographical center of the municipality of Stutensee in the district of Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg and gave it its name.
The castle was built in 1749 by Margrave Karl Friedrich of Baden as a pleasure house or hunting lodge. The name goes back to the margravial stud farm founded in 1652, which was built not far from fish ponds that Margrave Karl II had laid out around 1550/60. A significant expansion of the stables took place from 1669 - Staffort Castle, destroyed by Melac's troops, was released for demolition and the stones of the ruin were used as building material.
Today, the castle houses a youth facility of the Karlsruhe district. In the summer of 2004, the castle became 50% owned by the Karlsruhe district and 50% by the Rhein-Neckar district. Meanwhile, the Karlsruhe district is the sole owner of the youth facility Jugendeinrichtung Schloss Stutensee gGmbH.
