Sturehov Castle

The Sturehov castle is located in the municipality Botkyrka on Lake Mälaren. Sturehov is today a conference center and café. The two-storey main building is a typical example of the Gustavian style even though the about 100 years previously storey side wings have a different character. The castle was built in 1780 by architect Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz. At the site of the present castle was in the Middle Ages a village called Afrehulta. These were by Svante Sture the Younger, who was later murdered on the orders of King Erik XIV, combined into one manor. 1580 was the property owned by Svante Sture son Mauritz Sture. He named him Sturehov. 1654 inherited the property Johan Axelsson Oxenstierna. As of 1661 there were several changes of ownership. The property belonged to the families Wrangel, Banér, Vellingk, of Höpken, Liljencrantz, Wahrendorff, Piper, Hermine and Reuterskiöld. 1900 bought the city Stockholm the castle.
