Sturefors Castle

Sturefors Castle, an impressive structure in the Swedish municipality of Linköping in Östergötland, rises picturesquely on the shores of Lake Erlangensee. It is known for its well-preserved 18th-century interior and its long history of ownership by two noble families.
History+
The origins of Sturefors Castle date back to the late 16th century, when an initial building was erected. Of this original structure, only a few remnants of the north wing remain today. The current main building, a three-story construction with a distinctive high gabled roof, was designed by Nicodemus Tessin d. J. for Count Carl Piper. The layout of a portion of the castle park, which began in 1707, also followed Tessin's plans in the French style. Later, the park was expanded and redesigned by C. F. Adelcrantz and F. A. U. Cronstedt. The castle's name is derived from Margareta Sture, the wife of a former owner. Since its inception, the castle has been owned by the noble families Bielke and Oxenstierna. It has been protected as a historical monument since 1976.
