Störmthal Castle

The first written mention occurred in 1306 in a rent register of the Pegau Monastery, to which Störmthal was subject at the time. However, since 1350, the village was owned by various noble families.

Störmthal experienced positive development from 1675 under the rule of Statz Friedrich von Fullen, who held an influential position at the Dresden court as an Electoral Saxon War Councillor. The nobleman ensured that the village became an independent parish in 1690. A year later, he had the village's first school opened. In 1693, von Fullen began the new construction of the castle, which he had surrounded by an extensive park. This also included an animal enclosure and seven fish ponds. In 1786, the single-story side wings were added. Later, the property came into the possession of Adolph Graf von Schönfeld through marriage to Magdalena von Fullen. In 1820, Rudolf von Watzdorf bought the property. In 1945, the von Watzdorf family was dispossessed by the communists. After 1945, the castle temporarily served as an orphanage.
