Stiftsgården Castle

The palace's origins date back to the late 18th century when it was built between 1774 and 1778 as a private residence for Privy Councillor Cecilie Christine Schøller. In 1800, Schøller's grandson, Stie Tønsberg von Krogh, sold the estate to the Norwegian state. For the following decades until 1906, it served as the residence of the Stiftsamtmann, the highest administrative official of the region. Since the coronation of King Carl III Johan in 1818 at Nidaros Cathedral, the palace has been the venue for celebrations associated with the coronation or blessing ceremonies of Norwegian kings. With the coronation of King Haakon and Queen Maud in 1906, Stiftsgården officially became the royal residence in Trondheim.

Stiftsgården Palace is located in the city of Trondheim in the Sør-Trøndelag district, which belongs to the Trøndelag region in Norway. It stands at an elevation of approximately 8 meters above sea level.

Today, Stiftsgården Palace serves as the residence of the Norwegian King. Visitors can admire the building, considered one of the main works of Norwegian architecture, which also includes a Rococo-style park.
