Ein Vorgängerbau wird bereits im 13. Jahrhundert im Besitz der Herren von Steinberg erwähnt. Später wechselte der Besitz an die Herren von Nussberg und 1845 an die Grafen von Bray-Steinburg.
1824 wurde das Schloss in seiner heutigen Form neu errichtet.
