Stadtroda Castle
Stadtroda Castle is located in the small town of Stadtroda in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia.
As early as 1500, a castle in Stadtroda was reported. It fell victim to a city fire like many other buildings. The castle received its current appearance between 1663 and 1734. Prince Christian Wilhelm established his court with his wife Countess Louise Reuss zu Schleiz.
From 1780, the building served various offices. With the formation of the new Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg in 1828, the ducal district governor moved into the castle as his official residence. From 1876 to 1900, it was the seat of the Roda administrative district of the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, from 1900 the Stadtroda district office, from 1920 the administrative seat of the Stadtroda district, and from 1952 to 1994 the administration of the Stadtroda district. Since the district reform in 1994, the building has housed the district court of the Saale-Holzland district.
