Sonnhof Castle

Sonnhof Castle, also known as Sonnhof-Schlössl, is a castle located at the northern end of Stainach.

The castle consists of two buildings connected by an archway. It is built in the typical fin-de-siècle style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The so-called Spechtengut near Stainach is already mentioned under the same name in medieval documents. The Spechtensee lake is also named after it. Since that time, members of the Specht family have resided on the estate. This family line died out before 1900, and one of the daughters married the owner of the vlg. Mojer in Wörschachwald, which connected the two estates. After the fire at Spechtengut, the remains of the farm, including part of the agricultural land, were sold to Ferdinand Ritter von Pantz, who originally came from Donnersbach. He rebuilt the buildings as they stand today.

The Pantz family sold the castle after the Second World War to Dr. Philipp Harmer from Vienna, who in turn resold it to the Liebhart family from Lassing. Today, the castle building, without the associated agricultural land, is owned by the Eckhart family.
