Sighartstein Castle is a historic building situated on a prominent rock outcrop in the eponymous district of Neumarkt am Wallersee in Salzburg, Austria. It captivates with its fortified eastern side and a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages.

History+

The origins of Sighartstein date back to 1297, when Eckhart von Tann handed over the estate to Raitenhaslach Monastery. After an exchange, the property returned to the family in 1340 before being acquired by Archbishop Pilgrim II in 1372. Around 1450, Virgil Uiberacker had a new fortress built, where a chapel was consecrated in 1452. Emperor Charles V renewed the manorial rights in 1541. In 1714, a comprehensive renovation of the castle was carried out by Wolf Max Uiberacker, which significantly altered its late-medieval appearance. The castle remained in the possession of the Uiberacker family until 1964.
