Sielhof Castle

The Sielhof is a historic building in the municipality of Neuharlingersiel (Samtgemeinde Esens) in the district of Wittmund in East Frisia/Lower Saxony.

The building is centrally located in the village center of the North Sea resort of Neuharlingersiel, a few meters south of the small harbor and the pumping station, and is surrounded by a park located on the Neuharlinger Sieltief, shortly after the confluence of the Altharlinger Sieltief.

The building consists of two brick full stories with a only partially developed hip roof attic, which is covered with red roof tiles. On both sides of the symmetrically aligned house are protruding extensions. In the middle of the main visual axis, a tower with a double-curved dome covered with turquoise tiles rises above. On the ground floor of the tower is the main entrance, accessible via a small flight of steps, which, like the windows of the building, is provided with white-painted portals. The facade is clad with dark red clinker bricks.

The origin of the Sielhof dates back to 1755, when a two-story stone building was erected here by Siebelt Frerichs Eymen. Around 1825, it came into the possession of the Eucken family and was converted by a descendant of the original acquirer between 1899 and 1906 into a noble residence with the surrounding park landscape, in the style still present today. In 1967, a renovation took place.

In 1989, the local community of Neuharlingersiel acquired the house and has since used some parts for spa and holiday guests, while the gastronomy area is leased out.
