Senden Castle is one of numerous moated castles in Münsterland. It is located on the Stever river, which feeds the castle's moat. Furthermore, the Dortmund-Ems Canal is about 250 meters away.

The castle, ancestral seat of the family, was used as a hotel until the end of the 1990s, but its operation ceased after a fire in the roof truss. Currently, the castle houses the sculpture courses of the Senden Art School. The "Senden Castle Initiative" is trying to find a new use for the castle complex through various activities and to preserve the building from further decay.

Since 2011, a medieval market including an encampment has taken place annually in summer within the outer moats of the castle, which enjoys great popularity among medieval fans in the region due to the impressive backdrop despite the decay.

The building is a popular destination on cycling tours through Münsterland and part of the "100 Castles Route", a cycle path in the region.
