Seefeld Castle

The Chadolte family can be traced back to the 11th century. Around the middle of the 12th century, a first moated castle was probably built here. After the extinction of the Chadolte, the property reverted to the German king.

At the end of the 13th century, Rudolf von Habsburg transferred the entire area to the Nuremberg Burgrave Friedrich III von Zollern. The Seefeld dominion thus became the core of the Brandenburg fief, which was able to maintain its imperial immediacy until the 18th century. From 1292 to 1594, the Kuenringer held this fief. In 1336, King John of Bohemia besieged the castle for four weeks until it was handed over to him by Albero VII von Kuenring.

After some inheritance disputes, Hans Wilhelm Graf Hardegg bought the dominion in 1629. When they sold their Hardegg Castle in 1656, the family moved to Seefeld. The brothers Julius and Johann finally had the present castle built on the foundations of the old moated castle. Construction began in 1710 and was largely completed five years later. The building, severely damaged in 1945, was transformed back into an absolute gem through extensive restoration work starting in 1992.

The castle is still owned by the Hardegg family today and is used as a private residence. However, in keeping with the architectural concept of the house, the castle is also opened for exclusive events.
