Seefeld Castle

Seefeld Castle is a Toerring family castle in Seefeld near Ammersee. Around 1150, a document mentions that Count Berchthold of Andechs donated a part of the forest in Scharnitz from Liten to Sevuelt to Benediktbeuern Monastery, which had been handed over to Degenhard von Seefeld. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Seefeld was the seat of high-ranking lords who owned land throughout the surrounding area. The core of the keep dates from the 13th century. The castle itself was first mentioned in 1302 as Feste Schloßberg. It came into the possession of the Counts of Toerring-Jettenbach in the middle of the 15th century. In 1601, a brewery was built in Seefeld.

The castle received its current baroque form in the 18th century. Around 1739, the castle chapel also received much of its current furnishings. After 1766, an extension was added to the east side of the castle. The southwestern wing of the main castle was built in 1897 by Gabriel Seidl in place of the orangery. The last new constructions took place in 1947/48. The current owner, Hans Caspar Graf zu Törring-Jettenbach, had the complex completely renovated in recent years. Cultural institutions at Seefeld Castle include the Breitwand cinema and the Sudhaus Hall, which is used for various cultural events.
