Schwickershausen Castle
The community was first mentioned in 1187 as Schwiggershusin. A fortification in the village was mentioned at the same time as a ministerialis of the Count of Henneberg. In 1333, the Counts of Henneberg gave the Marschalk Castle in Wallbach as a fief. From the 14th century until 1747, the village belonged to the Lords of Kere and then to the Lords of Stein zu Nordheim. The castle was destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. The moated castle, built in Renaissance style in 1540, was extended in 1693.
On the ground floor there is a hall with a cross vault, above the portal are the coats of arms of the Lords of Kere. Currently, the building is in need of renovation. The gatehouse from 1541 stands on the land side.
In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.
