12. Jahrhundert bis 1804
The castle is first mentioned in the 12th century as being in the possession of the Lords of Schwendi. In 1525, the castle was destroyed in the German Peasants' War and rebuilt starting in 1547. In 1689, ownership passed to the Princes of Oettingen-Spielberg after the extinction of the Lords of Schwendi. In 1695, the castle burned down and was subsequently rebuilt. In 1804, the castle was demolished. In 1822, Johann Gottlieb Freiherr von Süßkind bought the property. In 1853, the castle was rebuilt by Max-Theodor Freiherr von Süßkind-Schwendi.
