History of the Castle+
  • The noble family of Bibra was already mentioned in documents in the 7th and 8th centuries. In connection with the Henneberg line, their origin can be traced back a long way.
  • As early as 1296, a "Heinrich von Bibra" attended the tournament in Schweinfurt. The proven right of members of the family to attend tournaments is further proof of their ancient lineage, as the appointed tournament marshals and heralds had to ensure the noble descent and the correctness of the coat of arms images; no one was admitted without a passed tournament test and proven descent from a knightly family. The earlier a family appears at a tournament, the further back their inherited nobility goes. Members of the family appear earliest in the Henneberg monasteries.
  • 1440 Balthasar von Wenkheim builds the castle
  • 1513 Wilhelm von Bibra buys the castle
  • 1517 Hans von Bibra (uncle) inherits the castle
  • 1525 Peasants' War: The castle was destroyed and fell victim to the flames! Rebuilt by Hans von Bibra
  • 1529 Wilhelm von Bibra (son) inherits the castle
  • 1571 Heinrich von Bibra (nephew) inherits the castle, married to Veronika von Erthal
  • 1576 Embellishment of the castle through renovations and the addition of the two stair towers
  • 1602 - 1669 Valentin and Bernhard v. Bibra inherit the castle. In view of this, Schwebheim Castle was managed by their sons Hans and Georg v. Bibra as well as Bernhard's sons Hans Erhard and Hans Christoph von Bibra
  • 1621 Georg von Bibra buys the other half of the castle
  • 1618 - 1648 Thirty Years' War
  • March 10 - 11, 1632 Swedish King Gustav Adolf stays overnight at the castle
  • 1624 Georg Christoph and Valentin Hektor von Bibra (sons) inherit the castle together
  • 1640 Georg Christoph inherits half of the castle from Valentin Hektor von Bibra, thus his sons Hans Georg and Georg Christoph von Bibra
  • 1669 Georg Christoph v. Bibra becomes sole owner of Schwebheim Castle
  • 1687 Johann Ernst von Bibra (son) inherits the castle
  • 1705 Gottfried Christoph and Johann Ignatz Friedrich von Bibra (sons) inherit the castle together
  • 1733 Johann Philipp Joseph Ignatz v. Bibra (son of Gottfried Christoph) inherits the castle
  • 1768 Franz Karl Anton, Wolfgang Karl Georg, Adam Friedrich, Ferdinand Johann Wenzel (wife Lukretia Wilhelmine v. Bibra), Heinrich von Bibra (sons) jointly inherit the castle
  • 1825 Dr. Ernst von Bibra (son of Lukretia Wilhelmine and Ferdinand Johann Wenzel v. Bibra) inherits the castle. He is a doctor of natural sciences and establishes the first laboratory in Lower Franconia in the castle. Through his worldwide travels, he was able to contribute his knowledge and collections as a co-founder of the Germanic Museum in Nuremberg. He wrote numerous papers on his research and earned a widespread reputation in Germany through his results. Reinhold v. Bibra (son) manages the castle during this time.
  • 1878 Josephine von Bibra, née Pickel (wife of Dr. Ernst von Bibra) moves to Schwebheim with her son Wolfgang von Bibra
  • 1882 Reinhold von Bibra extensively renovates the castle
  • 1901 Ernst and Hans von Bibra (sons of Reinhold) jointly inherit the castle
  • 1952 Hans von Bibra inherits his brother's share
  • 1955 Wilhelmine Elisabeth von Bibra, née Walluf (wife of Hans v. Bibra) inherits the castle
  • 1958 Armin Wagner (son of Ernst von Bibra) inherits the castle
  • 1996 Securing of the North Wing through grouting via the State Office for Monument Preservation and Armin Wagner's own efforts
  • 1999 Gerda Neubert (daughter of Armin Wagner) receives half of the castle as a gift
  • 2000 - 2001 Interior renovation of the North Wing by Gerda Neubert as private and business premises
  • 2005 Gerda Neubert - Completion of the 1st floor for rent for festivities and conferences
  • 2006 Hannelore Wagner (wife of Armin Wagner) inherits the South Wing
