Schwaigern Castle

The castle is a four-sided enclosed, two-story complex, whose floor plan cannot be fully surveyed from the outside due to the dense inner-city development and the adjacent inaccessible garden areas and outbuildings. The south wing has a passage portal, the north wing is open between the castle chapel and the coach house, so that Schlossstraße (Castle Street) crosses the inner courtyard of the complex, dividing it into a western and an eastern half. The upper floors of the castle buildings were once open arcades facing the courtyard and were successively enclosed during various renovations. To the southeast, the wing buildings on the ground floor facing the inner courtyard are designed with representative arcaded passages, while the western half is more defined by the outbuildings located there. To the northwest, a large farmyard adjoins, and to the northeast, the park-like castle garden, which is not publicly accessible.

Among the historical art treasures in the castle are a significant library, a large collection of valuable furniture, a collection of big game antlers, and a large number of paintings and pictures.
