Schloss Schulenburg – A Historic Gem+
History of the Building+
Schloss Schulenburg, a moated castle, was first mentioned in 1292 as being in the possession of Balduin von Varendorf. Subsequently, ownership transferred to the Schulenburg family, then in 1380 to the Knehem family, in 1561 to Wilhelm von der Recke, and in 1579 to Hermann Dincklage zu Quackenbrück. From 1755-62, the current castle was erected on the walls of the old fortress by Adam Lewin von Dincklage.
