Schöneck Castle
The rectory of St. Elisabeth Church in Elisabeth-Vorstadt (Froschheim, Plainviertel), a district of Salzburg, is the former Caspisschlösschen, which was later also called Schloss Schöneck and then Villa Haimerle.
The Caspisschlösschen, built in 1685 by Giovanni Gaspare Zuccalli (the builder of St. Erhard Church and St. Cajetan Church) for the free lords of Caspis, was located almost directly on the riverbank before the Salzach regulation, and had its own landing stage. For a long time, the surrounding fields were named Caspisfelder and the local floodplain Caspisau after the small but tastefully furnished and well-preserved little castle.
Among others, the organ and piano builder Ludwig Mooser (1807–1881), who, for example, renovated the Salzburg Cathedral organ, lived here.
Today, the house houses the rectory of the Parish of Salzburg-St. Elisabeth of the Archdiocese of Salzburg, and the parish kindergarten.
Architectural Description+
It is a typical local square, two-story building with a stepped pyramid roof that forms a tower-like upper floor, and is topped by a small round-domed bell tower.
