Schönbrunn Castle

Until 1667, the so-called "Zierlmühle" was located here. In 1667, landscape secretary Johann Bernhard Pockmayr acquired the property, had the "Zierlmühle" demolished, and laid the foundation stone for Schönbrunn Castle. In 1687, Elector Max-Emanuel elevated the property to a noble seat by decree. It became a Hofmark with lower jurisdiction. In 1690, the current owner Johann Veit, Imperial Count of Hohenwaldeck and Maxlrain, built the present main building. In the 18th century, besides Count Maxlrain, the Jesuit Order, high state dignitaries, and the Maltese Order were among the owners of the castle. In 1788, farmer's son Josef Hilz took over the stately property and began serving drinks. In 1804, the Hofmark received the "real beer serving right". In 1826, the "tavern right" was granted, making the inn a full-fledged guesthouse. In 1905, Jakob and Therese Obermeier leased the inn. In 1911, they purchased the property, which remained in their family's possession until 2009. In 2009, it was bought by Augustiner Bräu-Wagner KG Munich.

The name "Schönbrunn" comes from "Hell" (a) "brunn", which means clear well, spring.
