Schönau Castle
Schönau Castle, also known as Schönauer Castle, Säckingen Castle, or Trumpeter's Castle, is a castle in the spa town of Bad Säckingen in the Waldshut district of Baden-Württemberg.
The castle was built between 1600 and 1680 by Hans Kaspar von Schönau and has largely been preserved despite numerous alterations in later years. Originally, the building had four corner towers. However, during reconstruction work in the late 17th century, the two towers on the northeast side were demolished. In their place, an additional tower was added to the center of the southwest side.
During renovations in the 19th century, when the building was temporarily used as a brewery, part of the historic building fabric was destroyed. In 1928, the city of Bad Säckingen acquired the castle and established the Hochrheinmuseum (Upper Rhine Museum) within it, which showcases the history of the city of Säckingen and the Upper Rhine region.
Hochrheinmuseum in the Castle+
The Hochrheinmuseum, founded by Emil Gersbach, is run by the city administration and displays the history of Bad Säckingen and the Hochrhein-Hotzenwald and Klettgau regions. Archaeological finds, pictures, maps, and furniture are exhibited. The Scheffel Room commemorates the stay of the poet and writer Joseph Victor von Scheffel and his work as a legal intern in Bad Säckingen. In addition to official documents, portraits of the poet and various editions of his books can be found, including the rare first edition of the verse epic Der Trompeter von Säckingen (The Trumpeter of Säckingen) (1854). In 1985, after the last renovation to date, a Trumpet Museum was also opened in the castle. Furthermore, the castle is used for receptions and other representative events.
The name "Trompeterschlösschen" (Trumpeter's Castle) commemorates the marriage between the commoner Franz Werner Kirchhofer and Marie Ursula von Schönau in the 17th century.

On the south side, the castle park extends with old trees, fountains, a concert stage, a café in the tea house, a small cactus garden, and an aviary.
