Schlatt unter Krähen Castle
Schloss Schlatt unter Krähen is a listed castle located on the western outskirts of Schlatt unter Krähen (today a district of the city of Singen (Hohentwiel)), not far from Hohenkrähen. It is surrounded by an extensive park in the style of an English garden.
An residential complex originally (before 1539) built by Hans Ernst von Reischach was followed by the construction of a representative country castle between 1592 and 1598, after Hans Ludwig von Bodman acquired the lordship of Schlatt. Subsequent owners were the families von Raitenau (1606-19), Ebinger von der Burg (1619-1785), Lenz von Lenzenfeld (1785-1790) and von Bodman (1790-1816). From 1816, the castle was again owned by the von Reischach family; through adoption, their inheritance passed to the Counts Douglas of the Langenstein line. The current owner is Robin Graf Douglas von Reischach, son of Patrick Graf Douglas von Reischach (1938-2010).
Description+
The three-story manor house has a gabled roof and is adorned with octagonal towers at the corners. On the east side, remnants of a facade painting from the Renaissance period, uncovered in 1970, can be seen. The castle with its four corner towers embodies a widespread type from the late 15th to the 17th century, the so-called "Kastelltypus" of a late medieval castle. In the entrance hall on the ground floor of the castle is today the epitaph of Hans Werner von Reischach, created around 1610 by the important sculptor Jörg Zürn. The epitaph was originally in the Reischach Chapel of the later secularized and subsequently demolished monastery church of Petershausen (today a district of Konstanz) and was saved from destruction by Joseph von Reischach in 1831.
