Schirgiswalde Castle

The town of Schirgiswalde, south of Wilthen, belonged to the Kingdom of Bohemia for centuries. Bohemian influences are still noticeable in the town today. The otherwise Protestant Lusatia housed, so to speak, a Catholic island. The castle was built around 1700 and is surrounded by a manor. One of the old farm buildings now houses a kindergarten. The Dean of Bautzen used the estate as a summer residence. In 1833, the castle was rebuilt and received its second upper floor. Valuable wallpapers and room furnishings from this period have been preserved. After 1922, the castle was used as a church music school. After 1970, a children's institution was housed in the property.
