Salnecke Castle
Salnecke Castle, an imposing structure in the Swedish province of Uppland, rises near the locality of Örsundsbro. This magnificent castle, built around 1640, is a remarkable example of the architecture of its time and remains in private ownership to this day.
History+
The origins of the Salnecke estate date back to the Middle Ages, when it belonged to, among others, the large landowner Bo Jonsson Grip. The current castle was built around 1640 under the aegis of master miner Georg Grissbach. Grissbach's family retained ownership until about 1730, before the estate passed to the noble family Spens, who held it until 1830. Subsequently, Salnecke estate was acquired by the Gyllenadler family, who still reside in the castle today. In 1964, Salnecke Castle was granted the status of a listed building.
