Saareck Castle
In the years 1902/03, René von Boch-Galhau commissioned the Mainz architect Player, who had already designed the exhibition pavilion for Villeroy & Boch in Düsseldorf in 1901, with the plans for Saareck Castle. Initially, Saareck Castle was the residence of the René von Boch-Galhau family. After his death in 1908, his son Luitwin took over the castle and had it altered and enlarged with extensions in 1911. Until the outbreak of the Second World War, Saareck Castle remained the residence of the von Boch family. During the war, it was used as a military hospital, and after the war, as an administrative building for the occupation troops.
Since 1954, Saareck Castle has been the guesthouse of Villeroy & Boch.
