Rugendorf Castle

The castle was built in 1555 by Jörg von Waldenfels and sold in 1628/29 to the Bamberg bishop Johann Georg II Fuchs von Dornheim. During the Thirty Years' War, the complex was insignificantly damaged. In 1727, the roof truss was rebuilt and the building was used as a granary. In the 19th century, it was used as a residential house. After the Second World War, the roof truss was renewed. Meanwhile, the property is partially owned by the municipality. Extensive renovation work is required in the still inhabited building.

The castle directly borders the church property. After three stories of rubble masonry, a multi-story pointed gable roof follows. Windows from different eras are irregularly inserted into the building. Changes, such as bricked-up round arches or a bricked-up descent into the cellar, are recognizable.
