Rosenbichl Castle

Rosenbichl Castle is a building near the village of Pulst (municipality of Liebenfels) in the Austrian state of Carinthia. It was built starting in 1535 and later expanded on the site of various predecessor buildings, whose documentary mention dates back to 1268. For a long time, it served as a recreation home for the Elisabethine Order of Klagenfurt; since October 2012, it has been in private ownership.

Rosenbichl Castle is a castle with a Romanesque core, but frequently redesigned over the centuries. Predecessor buildings of the current complex were referred to as Puehlaren in 1268 and as Minzenbach in the 15th century. The manor, including the hamlet of Minzenbach, came into the possession of the Gradenegger family in the 14th century, who leased it to the Kulmer family. Using older building parts, the latter erected a "new house" starting in 1535, which was expanded with additions in 1566.

The Kulmers remained owners of the Rosenbichl dominion until 1676, when they sold the manor and its associated lands to Johann Bischof von Sulzbach. In 1681, Franz Andrä von Aschau acquired the property; four years later, the provost of Kraig, Johann Stieff von Cräntzen, took it over and bequeathed it by will to St. Georgen am Längsee Abbey. After the dissolution of the monastery, the iron industrialist Maximilian Thaddäus von Egger bought the abbey complex and the other possessions of the order at auction in 1786. The Egger family sold Rosenbichl in 1873 to the Alpine Montangesellschaft; in 1889, the St. Veit lawyer Franz Prettner acquired the property and bequeathed it to the Elisabethine Convent in Klagenfurt. In 1935, the complex was fundamentally renovated and the buildings were extended upwards.

The castle served as a recreation home for the sisters of the Elisabethine Order working in nursing; since October 2012, it has been in private ownership.
