Röhrsdorf Castle

A knight's estate is already mentioned in 1436. The castle is first mentioned in 1583. Ownership changed in the 16th century to the Lords of Bernstein, towards the end of the 17th century to the Lords of Neitschütz, and in 1741 to the von Carlowitz family, who built the Röhsdorf Castle anew on the knight's estate grounds. In 1771, the park was created in the Röhsdorf valley, and in 1787, the orangery building in the castle park with the figures "Bacchus" and "Flora" by the Dresden sculptor Johann Gottfried Knöffler (after its demolition in 1970, the figures were placed in Gut Gamig in 1980). After a fire in 1890, Röhsdorf Castle was rebuilt. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. During the GDR era, it served as an agricultural school. After the reunification, an investor acquired the building but went bankrupt five years later. From 1994 to 2001, Röhsdorf Castle housed a hotel. Currently, it serves as the domicile of an artist community.
