The Historic Building+
The princely hunting lodge of Duke Franz Josias, built in 1748, has been used as a House of Guests and a local history museum since 1982. Before it was converted into a local history museum, a part of the Rodach elementary school was housed in the hunting lodge.
History of the Building+
The hunting lodge was built in 1748 under Duke Franz Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. It served as a summer residence and hunting lodge for the ducal family. The building is an excellent example of Baroque architecture in the region.
Architectural Features
The hunting lodge is a two-story building with a mansard roof. The facade is adorned with stucco decorations and a central risalit. Inside, the building features richly decorated rooms, including a grand ballroom and several salons.
Current Use+
Today, the hunting lodge serves as a cultural center for the community. The House of Guests offers tourist information and event facilities, while the local history museum showcases the history and traditions of the region.
