Riet Castle

Riet Castle is a castle in the Riet district of the city of Vaihingen an der Enz in the Ludwigsburg district.

As early as the 12th century, a moated castle of the Staufer family is documented in Riet. In the 15th century, the massive lower floors were probably built on the remains of this castle, which were supplemented in the 16th century by four corner towers and two half-timbered floors. During this time, the Lords of Reischach-Riet, through Hans von Reischach, first came into possession of the castle. After the loss of the castle in 1593, the castle changed hands several times before coming into the possession of Württemberg in 1620. In 1709, the castle again became the property of the Lords of Reischach, but this time as a Württemberg fief. After the dissolution of the fief in 1835, the castle remained in the possession of the Reischachs, in whose possession it still is today.
