Riesa Castle
A monastery was founded in Riesa in 1119. Later, the monastery was converted into a manor. In 1554, the manor was owned by Martin von Miltitz. In 1592, Hanns Levin von Embden was enfeoffed with the Riesa manor. He had the south wing of the former monastery converted into a castle. Hanns Levin von Embden died quite early and was buried in the castle's crypt shortly after it was completed. After this, ownership passed to the von Welck family. In 1874, the Riesa city administration acquired the castle from Curt Heinrich Freiherr von Welck, after he recognized the revised municipal code in 1873 and thus no longer had authority over the town.
Today, the district administration office and the town hall are located in the castle.
