Reuth Castle
Reuth Castle is located in the Upper Palatinate municipality of Reuth bei Erbendorf in the district of Tirschenreuth.
The castle was first mentioned in 1337 as property of the Trautenberger family. In 1602, ownership passed to Georg Friedrich von Unruh through marriage and then to the related Sparnecker family. During the time of the von Sparneck family in Reuth (1628-1744), the Reuth Castle Brewery was founded in 1742. From the tradition of brewing rights in the form of a home brewery, a commercial operation emerged in 1742. The Barons von Reitzenstein bought the Hofmark Reuth in 1772 and exercised manorial rights and lower jurisdiction until 1848. Since 1933, the estate has been owned by Baron von Podewils.
The castle has been rebuilt several times, enlarged around 1550, restored around 1671, rebuilt around 1800, and new buildings were constructed from 1905 to 1906. Reuth Castle is a two-story complex with a domed round tower.
