Relling Castle (Ermatingen)

The house, probably dating from the estimated 12th/13th century, burned down in the Swabian War, but was rebuilt as early as 1501 and served as a country seat for Junker Jechonias Rellingen von Feder from 1579. The eastern part of the house stands as a square tower on high masonry plinths; it was extended in 1686 with the staircase. The western part of the house was later added as a wine press. The oak posts in the former wine press, which survived the fire of 1499, are still standing today. Thanks to the adaptations made by the owners to suit their needs, this building could be preserved and maintained. It is probably the oldest well-preserved building in Ermatingen.
