Reinthal Castle

Local Authorities

Reint(h)al Castle is located in the municipality of Hart bei Graz in the district of Graz-Umgebung in Styria.

In the Middle Ages, the castle served as an economic farm for Rein Abbey. From the 16th century onwards, it was managed as a noble residence. After frequent changes of ownership, the property has been owned by the city of Graz since 1967.

The enclosed four-wing complex with a square inner courtyard has its oldest structural components in the basement of the south wing. The pillar arcades were walled up over time; a round corner tower visible in an engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer is no longer present. In the 19th century, a square corner tower was added to the building, and a chapel was set up on its upper floor.
