Ratzenegg Castle

In 1333, Konrad von Auffenstein enfeoffed his vassal Friedrich von Hallegg with the newly built castle. With the demise of the Auffensteiner, the feudal right fell to the sovereign. He confirmed the Halleggers' fief.

Around 1600, Adam von Hallegg had the building expanded to its current castle-like size and provided with terraced gardens. Under the pressure of the Counter-Reformation, the Halleggers had to leave the country in 1629. They had previously sold Ratzenegg to their relative Baron Georg Siegmund von Egg zu Hungersbach, who in turn sold it in 1656 to Julius Neidhart Baron von Staudach. Through his daughter Maria Isabella, the dominion came to Josef Wilhelm Count von Kronegg in 1677.

After his death, the guardian of his minor children sold Ratzenegg in 1708 to Franz Adam Count Galler. He ceded it in the same year to Johann Peter Count Goess. His descendants owned the castle until 1973. Then a frequent change of ownership began. However, the castle had already been severely neglected during the time of the Goess family. The decay could only be stopped in recent decades.

Today, the building is largely restored and is owned by the De Laianne Mirrless family.
