Rathsfeld Castle (Rathsfeld)

In the district of Rathsfeld is Rathsfeld Hunting Lodge, which was built between 1697 and 1698 by Anton Count of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, although there was also a predecessor building on the site. The hunting lodge is a three-wing building with a corps de logis and has a living and ancillary usable area of approximately 5000 m², 168 windows and 80 doors. During the GDR era, it was used as a company holiday home for VEB Robotron Optima Büromaschinenwerk Erfurt and as a pioneer holiday camp. In 1998, it was sold by the Treuhandanstalt to a private owner who allowed the building to fall into disrepair. Since 2006, it has been a ruin due to arson. In 2007, the building received the Black Sheep award from the Thuringian Heritage Association due to its neglect.

The castle also includes a double chapel. The baroque castle park is approximately 250,000 m² in size, with only 56,000 m² remaining in its original state.
