Ramspau Castle

Ramspau Castle is a baroque country castle in the Ramspau district of the Upper Palatinate market town of Regenstauf. It is located on the western bank of the Regen river.

Around 1694, Ramspau Castle and the associated village came into the possession of Count Johann Siegmund Anton Franz von Reisach (1670–1743), who was the chief administrator (Verwaltungsbeamter) of the Electoral Bavarian market town of Regenstauf. After 1700, he had large parts of the castle demolished and used as building material for a new castle in the village in the valley. This was a two-story baroque complex with a hip roof and four round corner towers with octagonal superstructures, which in turn are topped by onion domes. The construction was completed around 1726. In 1803, the castle came into the possession of the Barons von Pfetten.

Since 1995, the castle has been owned by Wigbert Graf von Ledebur-Wicheln and his wife Isabella, née Countess von Ingelheim genannt Echterin von und zu Mespelbrunn. The castle, with a view of the Regen river, which still shapes the townscape of Ramspau, is in very good condition. Parts of the outbuildings have been converted into holiday apartments. In the small park belonging to the castle, there are several stone figures, including a Mater Dolorosa created around 1430.
