Radibor Castle

In the year 1359, Radibor near Bautzen is first mentioned in a document. Radibor receives its unmistakable character from the fact that a significant proportion of the population has preserved its Sorbian nationality and Catholic faith to this day. A knight's seat of Hans von Bolberitz zu Radibor is mentioned here in 1441. From 1463 to 1563, the property belonged to the von Planitz family. From 1589 to 1606, it was owned by the von Haugwitz family. Until 1685, the owners changed frequently. Only in 1709 did the von Schack family build the castle here, which was originally surrounded by a moat. From 1765 until their expropriation and expulsion by the communists in 1945, it belonged to Baron von Welck.

From 1964, the castle was used as a Sorbian teacher training institute and later deteriorated into a warehouse. The building itself is a simple two-story manor house with a small light well. There are risalits on the north and south sides, and a staircase leads to the entrance. In the round-arched niches of the building front, there were certainly artistic figures in the past. A five-flight staircase in the vestibule provides access to the upper floor. The castle is currently in an extremely poor condition. It is currently without an owner.
