Prössdorf Castle

In Prößdorf, there is a manor house whose builder and time of origin cannot be proven. However, in the 15th century, it was not an independent knight's seat but an outwork of Breitenhain. The Prößdorf estate frequently changed owners; in the 16th century, it belonged to the Lords of Bünau, later the Lords of Minckwitz and Zeumer. The current castle was built in the mid-18th century on the walls of a predecessor building. In 1818, the Royal Prussian Court Councillor Carl Heinrich von Tettenborn-Holderrieder purchased the property and conceived the entire castle grounds as a setting for ancient art monuments. Around the turn of the century, the Phönix AG bought the manor. In 1945, the manor was expropriated by the communists. From 1969 to 1974, the castle was converted into a residential building. The outbuildings fell into disrepair. In 1998, the last farm building was demolished.
