Polenz Castle

Polenz Castle was built in 1720 by the Lords of Trebra-Lindenau. In 1892, Curt von Trebra-Lindenau was the owner of the castle. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. After this, the castle served as a military hospital and a refugee shelter. In the years after 1949, the building was used in various ways by the municipal council. It was a kindergarten, municipal administration, and residential building for Polenz residents and needy outsiders. From 1990 until the turn of the millennium, it stood empty and was left to decay. In 1999, the annex was completed in just one year, and the entire building was extensively renovated and restored. The corridors and hallways of the residence are adorned with over 20 historical pencil drawings from 1880. These are original sketches and drawings by the children of Trebra-Lindenau, donated by a Polenz resident. On the middle floor, three ceilings from around 1850 were partially preserved in their original state.
