Pörnbach Castle
Pörnbach Castle is located in the middle of the village of Pörnbach in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm.
The castle was first mentioned in 1558. It was probably rebuilt in 1572 under Johann Georg von Schafhausen. The shape of the residential wing suggests its origin in the Renaissance style. In 1662, Pörnbach Castle came into the possession of the comital Toerring family. In 1708, major alterations and extensions were carried out by the Toerrings, who no longer inhabited the castle since the mid-18th century. Over the years, structural changes were repeatedly made to the castle and its extensive outbuildings. After 1946, the castle and its associated building complexes provided accommodation for refugee families. From 2003 to 2005, the neglected area was extensively renovated. The castle park was also newly landscaped. Currently, Pörnbach Castle is used as a venue for celebrations.
Architectural Description+
The residential wing is a broad, gable-fronted, two-story building with a gabled roof and polygonal corner towers on the garden side (core from 1614/15). The associated farm buildings are elongated, two-story buildings with gabled roofs, dating from the 18th/19th century.
