Podrosche Castle

This historic building, a true architectural gem, has a rich and fascinating history that spans several centuries. Its origins date back to the late 19th century, when it was built for the Prince of the Netherlands. The building has witnessed numerous historical events and changes of ownership, each leaving its mark on its unique character.

The construction of the building began in the second half of the 19th century. It was commissioned by the Prince of the Netherlands, who intended it as a grand residence. The architectural style reflects the prevailing tastes of the era, combining elements of various historical styles to create a distinctive and imposing structure.

In 1897, the property came into the possession of the Count of Strachwitz. Under his ownership, the building continued to be a prominent landmark, hosting numerous social events and serving as a testament to the family's prestige.

The 20th century brought significant changes to the building's fate. In 1945, it was expropriated, marking a turning point in its history. Following this, the Red Army established a military training ground on the premises, utilizing the extensive grounds for their operations.

Subsequently, the building and its surroundings were used by the NVA (National People's Army of East Germany) and are currently in use by the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces). This continuous military use has meant that the building is not accessible to the public for viewing.
