Pichlern Castle

The two-story, eight-axis baroque building stands on a rectangular floor plan on a south-facing slope of the Maria Saaler Berg. Its facade was redesigned in the Neo-Gothic style in the mid-19th century. The visible walls feature restrained decoration in the classicizing Tudor style. On the south-facing facade, diagonally placed three-story square towers with curved spires protrude at both corners. In the middle, an entrance hall with supporting pillars was built, which supports the balcony on the upper floor. This is protected by a small canopy, above which the baroque-style ornamental gable rises. On the hip roof of the castle are sheet metal dormer windows and chimney covers.

Inside, cross-rib vaults and barrel vaults with lunettes in the northern ground floor rooms still document the baroque state of the 18th century. In the salon on the upper floor there is a ceiling painting by Josef Fromiller, created around 1740. It depicts the four seasons in an allegory. Another work by Fromiller is a panel painting in the library, showing the beheading of Saint Barbara. The furnishings of the upper floor largely date from the time of the mid-19th century renovation. In the ground floor of the east tower there is a small house chapel dedicated to Saint Catherine. Its ceiling is decorated with historicist stencil painting. It has narrow and tall pointed arch windows with colorful, ornamental leaded glass. The altarpiece by Gebhard Flatz depicts the dying Francis Xavier.
