Pflugensberg Castle belonged to the industrialist Friedrich von Eichel-Streiber between 1892 and 1923. He sold the complex to the Protestant Church. Until 2011, the Thuringian regional bishop of the Protestant Church resided here. In 2011, the castle was transferred to private hands.
