Pesenbach Castle

Pesenbach Castle is located in the eponymous district of the municipality of Feldkirchen an der Donau in the Urfahr-Umgebung district of Upper Austria (Pesenbach 1).

The name Bosenbac was first mentioned in 1108. The present castle was then a noble manor. The old Bavarian noble family Starzhausen owned the manorial seat of Mühllacken Castle from 1678 to 1701 and built the Pesenbach seat in 1679. An appraisal of the value of Pesenbach in the course of an inheritance procedure in 1764 speaks of "the noble manor and Mayrhof Pesenbach (the building Pesenbach together with the Mayrhof)".

The Linz patrician family Peisser received the predicate "von und zu Werttenau" in 1674 and took over Mühldorf Castle from 1686 to 1705, and in 1705 the associated estates Mühllacken Castle and Pesenbach Castle; on March 3, 1747, this complex of estates passed into the possession of Wilhering Abbey through judicial sequestration, where it remained until 1857. The Starhemberg family owned Bergheim Castle and the Pesenbach manor in the 19th century. From them, Baron Victor von Pereira-Arnstein acquired the Pesenbach manor in 1867. The estate and village of Pesenbach were also in the possession of the Barons von Pereira-Arnstein in 1896. In 1899, according to the schematism of the land registry and large landowners of Upper Austria, the owners belonged to the curia of large landowners. On October 7, 1898, Baron Alfons von Pereira-Arnstein sold the property complex to Count Franz zu Eltz and Countess Anna zu Eltz. In 1921, Almeida Schoenmaker came into possession and sold it on October 2, 1924, to Curt and Monika Taxis von Bordogna und Valnigra, the great-grandparents of the current owner Roland Stieber, who became the owner of the castle in 2000 through transfer from his father.
