A castle was first mentioned in a document in 1171. In 1491, the castle is referred to as fortified. From 1502, the castle was owned by the Counts of Hardegg. Later, ownership changed to the Lords of Floyt.
The current building is a two-story rectangular building with a gabled roof. The main wing in its current form dates from the 16th century. In 1797, a partial demolition occurred, followed by various renovations.
