Obernau Castle

Schloss Obernau near Rottenburg is first mentioned in a document in 1095 (Burg Ouwe) as being in the possession of the Knights of Ow. In addition to the simply designed three-story building with a hip roof, an adjacent medieval defensive tower particularly stands out. The stately tower consists of Staufer bossage masonry and dates from the Romanesque period. As a former moated castle, the predecessor building served the noble free lords of Ow as their ancestral seat in the small castle town of Obernau, which they founded in the 14th century. The current castle was built by Joseph Rassler.
