Nussdorf Castle

Nussdorf Castle, located on Martinstraße in Nussdorf, a district of Eberdingen, a municipality in the Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg, was built in the 15th/16th century and rebuilt in the 19th century. It was constructed from unplastered quarry stone in the style of a medieval castle. The castle, along with the enclosure of its park, the former coach house, the former administrator's residence, and the farm building, is considered a cultural monument.

A predecessor building, a castle or fortress from the 15th century, can be proven to have stood on the same site. This had a tower on the northern side and a courtyard with farm buildings on the southern side. Furthermore, a castle garden was part of the approximately one-hectare complex. At the end of the 19th century, a new building was planned by the then owner Richard Freiherr von Reischach, who was the Lord Chamberlain to Queen Olga of Württemberg. In 1878, the farm buildings and the southern tower were built, and nine years later, the new castle building was executed by the Stuttgart architectural firm Eisenlohr & Weigle. In the same year, the "Kleine Schlössle" (Small Castle), a Romanesque-style building with decorative forms from Gothic and Renaissance, located opposite the present castle, was also built. Finally, in 1888, the current inner courtyard with cloister was constructed, and the horse stable was converted into the gardener's residence. Conclusively, the castle garden was redesigned into an English landscape garden.
